Clark was educated at Bishop's University〔Who was Who 1987-1990: London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 0-7136-3457-X〕 and ordained in 1933.〔Crockford's Clerical Directory1940-41 Oxford, OUP,1941〕 He was Curate at Church of Advent in Westmount, Quebec and then at St Peter in Regina, Saskatchewan. After this he held incumbencies at Pense and Vancouver. From 1945 to 1948 he was Dean of Kootenay and then its bishop.
